The Palace Project provides support for ILS catalog using MARC Records. This integration can be enabled for your library by request by the Palace Implementation Team.

Use cases for the MARC Record Generator

  1. Discovery Only - Use the Palace MARC record generator to create MARC records for unique Palace content. You will be able to ingest the records created into your ILS discovery layer.
  2. Discovery & Lending - Being able to borrow content through your ILS catalog to content available in the Palace App via a link to a particular item detail view in the Palace Patron Web (CW) Catalog app. This is the only way to check out items from the Palace Marketplace from your ILS. Two options you would need to specify:
    1. Borrow and Reserve titles only

    2. Borrow and Reserve or download License files (Adobe Protected EPUBs)or non DRM EPUBs and PDFs

💡 Non DRM Content

      1. For Mac users non-DRM books will automatically load into the respective applications
        1. EPUB will open in iBooks
        2. PDFs will open in Viewer
      2. For Windows or Chrome users you would need have a EPUB or PDF reader application installed to open the EPUB or PDF

💡 DRM Content

      1. For Mac user, install latest Adobe Digital Editions for Macbook. See Documentation Here
      2. For Windows PC users, install Adobe Digital Editions for Windows. See Documentation Here
      3. For Chrome users install Adobe Digital Editions from Google Play

Together with the MARC Record Export feature of the Palace Collection Manager and the Palace Patron Web Catalog (or CPW) application leverages the MARC Record 856 record to provide a URL to view an item’s record in the Palace Patron Web Catalog. This URL resolves to the CPW on the Book Detail View. From that screen, a patron can borrow or download content via the borrow button.

💡 ILS and OPAC Integrations

Traditional ILS Catalog systems and discovery platforms - such as an Online Public Access Catalog applications (OPAC) - provide a Web Catalog interface that require metadata ingest via the MARC Record. Some ILS vendors provide programmatic ingest from APIs or open protocols such as OPDS (the protocol used by the Palace Apps and Collection Manager) but not all. Therefore the Collection Manager accommodates the use of MARC records as a common metadata exchange format for content aggregated by Palace so it can be included in a libraries OPAC or ILS Catalog application.
